More Guerrilla News

Violent as ever despite a backlash to bombing a medical graduation, al-Shabab militants fired mortars on Mogadishu's police 66th anniversary celebration. One police officer was killed and three wounded.

Here's where it gets stupid. AU forces returned fired, but probably late and guerrillas are almost impossible to target unless retaliation is taken in a minute. More unthinkable, the AU troops fired into Bakara market killing 12 civilians and wounding 15.

No one from al-Shabab is reported dead at this point - wonderful counterinsurgency technique.

The AP sums up well, "Somalia's capital sees near-daily bloodshed as a powerful insurgent group with links to al-Qaida, tries to overthrow the fragile government and push out 5,000 African Union peacekeepers."
